I was working on the blog, late one ~~night~~ day... Happy Halloween, my friend. I trust your evening will be filled with candy and ironic costumes. Myself, I'll be driving up north to the great state of Massachusetts wearing my Spider-Man outfit. Should be a good time.

I did a massive flickr update, filled with treasures for anyone (who's interested) to enjoy. First, there was the wunderbar day spent hiking and drinking at the Bear Mountain Octoberfest, then there was the whirlwind weekend spent in the City of Angels, a jaunt into Beantown with Klove, and an Arts Fest in PA. (I've even got photos up of my summer in Maine and recent reunion in Delaware, for those who are friends on Flickr... If you're interested in seeing, but are not a Flickr member, email me and I'll send you a guest pass to look at those...)

If you haven't watched it already, run over to YouTube and watch Cyrus and Duck Talk About Stuff: Episode 4. They took their time in releasing this latest episode, but it was well worth the wait. Get these guys their own network show, pronto.

Other than that, the fall is flying along at breakneck speed. With baseball over, attention has been entirely focused on my 5-2 Buffalo Bills. Well, that, and the awesomeness that is Rock Band 2. In addition to the 84 songs that come with the disc, you can also play all the songs you bought for the 1st game -- AND the songs on the first disc. Wicked. We've been rocking out, Wyld Stallions style.

Oh, and there's some sort of election-thingy going on next week.

But I haven't seen much about that on the news. Or in the papers. You should probably vote, anyways. It's your duty.

A quick post of congratulations to Lars and Les, the new proud parents of a baby girl. Isabella finally decided to join the world this morning, and we couldn't be more excited for her and her parents. She's going to have a lot of lovin' out on the Left Cost.

Boy, these late playoff games are killing me. Watching playoff baseball is usually tense and stressful enough -- I don't need to throw in the added aspect of slight loopiness from sleep deprivation (and beer) into the mix as well. But, that's where we are, here in Game Two, as I try to not hoarf while I sit on the couch and watch Daisuke go through his token crappy inning.

Finally, it looks like we'll have some weekends at home here this fall (aside from the big family reunion next weekend). Feels like we've been driving non-stop since we got back from Ireland. It'll be quite nice to just hit the Bills Bar this weekend to watch my boys from Buffalo attempt to go 5-0.

Beautiful catch by Nancy Drew to save a home run. I almost spit Yeungling all over my beautiful iMac.

I've still got tons of photos due to pop on Flickr, but time hasn't allowed for me to focus on that yet. I know you're just dying to check them out, but you'll just have to wait.

The Messageboard has finally gotten a little cleanup. With the reduction in action on the board, we've decided to whittle things down to an East/West forum setup. We've still got everyone's favorite Flash Videos, Political Commentary, and even a retrospective look at the Film Fop Forum.

With the plethora of great new albums this fall, I've also relaunched my song of the day/week feature, so be sure to take a look and check it out. You should get at least a good song a week out of it.

PS -- I downloaded the full album of "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" on Rock Band tonight. As I started playing the opening track, I instantly turned into the 15-year-old version of me. It was pretty amazing. All those years of air guitar and air drums actually paid off. If you have the means, I highly reccomend it.

Who would have thought a couple weeks of sun-soaking, wave-riding, book-reading, wii-fitting, BluePaw-drinking, Lobstah-cracking, baby-hugging, Sox-watching and Boardwalk Fries-obsessing could go so fast.

And, naturally, when I got back a few days ago -- a lovely nose/throat illness-type-thing was waiting for me.

Isn't that always the way?

Regahdless, I'm back in black and my lovely wife returns tonight. I'll be sifting through mound of photos for a while, but I wanted to share my very FIRST iMac video. A nice little slideshow of our excellent Saturday spent with the wife's college pals (and, now my pals, too!). It was quite fun to make.

We both knew things were coming to an end. It had been an amazing eight years, but we've... grown apart recently. We first met ages ago, while he was in Cleveland. We admired him from afar. He was everything we were looking for at the time. "Why can't we get guys like him?", we asked ourselves.

So, naturally, it was a big deal when he moved to Boston in the winter of 2000, to be with us.

We were quite young at the time, fresh out of college. Manny was great -- we'd never known anyone like him before. Guys who used to kick the tar out of us suddenly trembled when he showed up at home. He fit right in with the rest of our friends, making us laugh with his wild, crazy antics.

Remember the mp3 sunglasses? The pee breaks in the Green Monster? The wacky, headfirst slides into home? Selling his neighbor's grill on eBay? Cutting off Johnny's throw from the outfield? Those wild locks, taking on a life of their own through the years? Petting Tavarez' head like a puppy?

Sure, we had our issues from time to time (what couple doesn't?). But Manny was a rock. He was our constant. Other guys would come and go. Some -- like Pedro -- hurt a lot more than others. Still, every time we were in a funk, we'd turn around and there was Manny: smiling, laughing, crushing poor baseballs and changing our sporting lives forever.

When we first got together, winning a championship was one of those ever-elusive dreams. We longed for it, but questioned our belief that it could ever come true. ManRam helped make those dreams reality not once, but twice.

By the beginning of this year, we knew there was a chance we'd be going our separate ways soon. We held out hope that things might work out. Things were going so well: we hadn't had a blow-up in ages, he seemed so content -- so comfortable.

It spiraled out of control oh-so quickly.

His temper flared: taking a swing at Youk, pushing Old Man Jack to the ground. He told us he was unhappy. He wanted a commitment from us. We weren't ready. "Why can't we wait until the end of the year?", we asked. He became more upset. Perhaps he didn't really want us to commit -- maybe was making us do the hard part. The breaking up part. We don't know.

We may never know.

The writing was on the wall, though. Things were uncomfortable. We hoped that he'd stick around until our lease was up in October. After all we'd been through, it seemed like a reasonable idea.

But then he said some things. We said some things. Maybe we both meant it, maybe we didn't -- at this point, it matters little.

It's over.

So here we are. Trying to move on. People keep trying to tell us that he was no good. He was selfish. A disgrace.

I reject that.

When I think of Manny, I see the deliriously happy kid running out on the baseball field, holding an American flag on the day he got his U.S. citizenship. I see him hugging everyone, from Pesky, to Pedie, to US. I see the World Series MVP holding that sign, riding on the Duck boat while the city of Boston goes berserk. I see one of the greatest 1-2 combinations in baseball history. I see the moonshots that I'll never see again, sailing over the wall and into the night air.

274 Home Runs. 868 RBI's. Innumerable smiles and points to the dugout, the stands. Relationships are hard and complicated, and yes -- sometimes they just come to an end. But I don't regret a goddamn thing about spending the last eight years with Manny.

Vaya con Dios, Manuel. I hope we can still be friends.

Summertime, The Livin' Is Easy.

Hola Hola. The summertime is continuing to roll along. I am fully intertwined with the new iMac (and wondering what took me so damn long to make the switch). All is well, it is glorious, hallelujah.

The Sox almost got no-hit last night, and have -- generally -- played like baby poo since the break. So that's no fun. BUT, perhaps they're just waiting until I can watch all the games in HD... which will start next week when our building is upgraded to the new DirecTV system.

Yay.

Otherwise, things are moving along swimmingly. Heading off to the beach for vacation in a few weeks. Following Frants' advice and starting a new career in MLB: The Show. Riding my bike with the wife for miles and miles to watch Little D run in the New York Half Marathon. Checking out Boston and sights with the Family and Pops. Making sure west coast pals aren't crushed by falling, quaking objects. You know, the regular stuff.

But, as this is a site update, it's time for the obligatory birthday wish -- with today's lucky recipient being Astoria's (and our) favorite gal, Kate! You might know the Birthday Girl from such places as "Web M.D.", "Law & Order", or "Hot Tub Finance Infomercial". Well, soon you will know her by another moniker: "Mrs. Stevie C." That's right, ol' Steve and Kate finally decided to throw down and join the Gettin' Hitched Club. A wise choice indeed. We could not be happier for them (if just because this means that we're going to get another chance to dance while completely faced at some point).

I'm proud to call them our friends, and I wish them a lifetime of Face Sucking Happiness.

Things have been awfully quiet around here lately, haven't they? The cause, my friends, is that for the past week I've been strapped with the exciting (and daunting) task of switching my entire computer-driven life from the old PC to a new, sleek and super-fast iMac.

Indeed, I've made "The Switch".

So far, so good -- and I expect to be running at full capacity by this time next week.

Until then, I suggest y'all check out the Flickr Group that Young James set up for Ithaca College Theatre Folk. I plucked a few photos from back in the day (that were sitting on my hard drive) and put them up there. I might even dig out the old albums and see what else I can find...

These two kids right here? The ones with a winning combination of giddy glee and smoldering sexiness? They're trend-setters. And I'm not talking about setting trends in fashion (although he has made cargo-style sweat pants cool for white guys), music (although they're always cutting edge), decor (although you should see their bottle-cap coffee table), or food (although her calzones give DP Dough a run for their money).

I'm talking about getting engaged.

You see, Mack here popped the question to Liz recently. She said yes -- which goes to show how fortunate us homely boys are that lovely ladies are easily swayed by sparkly, shiny things -- and we were off to the races. In no less than a few weeks, three other couples we know got engaged as well. It's like the baby-birthin' trend from last spring.

Love. It's in the air.

I'm ridiculously happy for them. Especially, because I can now put all that "getting married" knowledge I acquired last year too good use. (And here I thought it was just going to go to waste.) To be fair, however, "really really make sure the DJ doesn't play 'Mambo #5' at the reception" is more like common sense -- but you'd be surprised how many times those goddamn guys will try to slip it in, EVEN AFTER you've provided him with a freaking playlist of almost two hundred songs totaling over eight hours in length and you can be strongly assured that Lou Bega was not located anywhere on the list...

What was I talking about?

Ah, yes. Marriage. It's happening. It's exciting. It's fun. And with all these new nuptuals being put together, it looks like Daddy's going to have to get a new suit.

So, to Matty & Liz, I offer the heartiest of congratulations. Somewhere, Steve Jackson and the rest of the Pieguys are beaming with pride. In the biblical sense.

It's been a long time since we've rock n' rolled. Truth be told, it's entirely my fault. But, I'm here to rectify that, by letting those interested parties know that a new Ithacamafia Mixtape has been posted up on ShuffleThis. It was actually completed over a year ago by Matty & Myself -- but it languished on my hard drive collecting dust for the rest of 2007. It deserved better, so I'm here today to make amends.

I'm an uncle. This is Maya. She's my niece. She is the Greek goddess of the earth. She's also adorable.

We got the call that she was on her way Saturday night around 11:30pm. We had been sleeping for about an hour, but quickly packed our bags and hopped in the car. We rolled into Haverhill around 4:30am, where I proceeded took an hour cat-nap. After that, we were off to the hospital, where Mark and Autumn waited for their little girl to join everyone.

She obliged around 11:57am on Sunday (Father's Day AND Mark's Birthday), weighing 7lbs. and sporting a full head of dark, Grecian hair. Amy was in the delivery room to help out Mom (who did awesome) and Dad (who didn't pass out). I opted to nap in the waiting room with the soon-to-be Grandparents.

I don't want to turn every post on this site into a discussion of the weather -- but, jaysis -- there is something particularly disgusting about the swampy heat we've had in NYC these last few days. I saw a small child burst into flames and run across the street after lunch. It's very strange.

That said, I've been walking through this afternoon with a KG-like intensity, preparing myself for tonight's Game 3 vs. the Lakers. I bounced my head on my computer monitor for about ten minutes before this blog post, finishing it by rubbing chalk on my hands and throwing the dust into the air with a flourish. I then finished each sentence in this post with a loud profanity.

I feel good. I feel strong. I could get used to this.

Now, if you'll excuse me, my Larry Bird 'stache and I have to get our office-mates fired up for an afternoon notes session.

My, how time flies. It seems like only yesterday I was heading up to Massawhosetts, getting ready to tie the knot in front of friends and family. And yet, just a little over a week ago, I found myself skipping along the streets of Dublin, celebrating an entire year of nuptual fun.

Dublin was most excellent, from our hotel (a former 19th century schoolhouse in Ballsbridge) to the spirits (which flowed freely). We hit the ground running as soon as we landed, determined to take in everything. Starting with Kilmainham Gaol and ending with the Book of Kells, we left no site (or pint glass) unturned. Have I mentioned how delicious the beer was over there? Because it was. We even got out of the city for an afternoon and took in the beautiful town of Glendalough, way up in the Wicklow Mountains, and home to an ancient monastic site founded by... St. Kevin.

Upon our return, it took a few days to get back in the swing of things -- but with the Celtics in the playoffs (and now, the Finals) and the Sox fighting to get atop the AL East (achieved last night), I managed to fix my sleeping schedule pretty quickly. It looks like it's going to be a sweltering one this weekend -- I plan on taking my first dip in our pool tomorrow -- and we'll be heading up north for Mark & Autumn's baby shower (I'm going to be an uncle!) tomorrow night. Good times.

For now, though, it's time to focus. There are still things that need to be done today. Like catching up on the new videos that Cyrus and Duck have put up on YouTube. And, of course, there's still the one big, important task left for this evening: BEAT LA.

I'm putting my affairs in order as another dreary (and cold) day develops outside. I don't mind, though. I consider it training for my next fun-filled week: in Dublin. The wife and I are off to celebrate a year of marriage (madness!) on the Emerald Isle. We are quite excited.

Hard to believe that just twelve months ago, we were about to get hitched up in Massawhosetts. Seems like yesterday, and yet, seems like ages ago. Or, as those Dublin boys from U2 say, "Faraway, So Close."

What else is new? Well, we're still recovering from that whirlwind weekend in LaLa Land. The C's continue their quest for another banner tonight against Detroit. Our favorite group of babies from 2007 are all turning one, capped off by a celebration for Mr. Winslow in Central Park this past Sunday. Lester threw a no-hitter this week, which was a sight to behold. Duck and CyMon teach us some things about Volcanoes (and toilets). Oh, and GTA IV is still really, really, fun (even if there isn't enough time in the day to play it).

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to go practice my Gaelic and pack my paddy cap. Aer Lingus is callin'.

This past weekend, we had the pleasure to bear witness to the lovely nuptials of our own Corey & Nellie, in Malibu, California. It was a wonderful whirlwind weekend, from that first terrifying van ride up to Rancho de Cielo, to the very last refrain of "Mama Said Knock You Out". (Friends and family of the cute couple created a perfect storm on the dance floor, right until the very end.)

It's a testament to the quality of Nellie & Cor to see so many people who love them all in one place, celebrating without abandon.

Myself, I'm still a little sore from that whole "chair lifting Hora incident". But my only regret is that we had to leave so soon -- you never feel like you get enough time to see everyone. Especially all those friends we miss out on the West Coast. I suppose it's a good reason to go back and visit soon (since they're all convinced of staying there).

So, I hereby present our photos from the Wedding Weekend that I just popped up on Flickr. Duck put his photos up last night, which are also awe inspring (and I'm sure Frants will have his own up soon).

Ah, rainy New York weekdays. Are there any other days that inspire the desire to stay home and layabout more than you? Of course, I'm not going to deny the fact that the Greatest Game Ever Made is coming out today also lends itself to the strong "day off" desire. But, what can we do? We work. Or, post updates to our blog while we work.

As some of you might have seen, Hydro and I were fortunate enough to see friends (along with the Paw Sox) a week and a half ago. It was a wonderful weekend, filled with food, booze, fun, sun, and 66% of our teams ending up with comeback victories. Not a bad little Saturday.

In two weeks, we've got the big 'ol Cor/Nellie wedding thingy. That should be a blast (in their wacky California ways). All I know is that I'm going to be a dancing machine. That's a promise. And if the temperature gets above 100*, then I'm just taking the tux off. Watch out!

Myself, I'm looking forward to our trip to Dublin in a few weeks. Guinness and Jameson tours are high on our list. We've gotten excellent advice on sights to see from friends and family alike -- and there will be copious amounts of photos taken. Sliante!

If you guys don't hear from me for a few months, I've most likely succumbed to GTA Fever.

I meant to take note of this last week, but things got away from me. Frants unveiled a Flickr Photoset from our 1999 Ithaca Graduation last week. Talk about a flashback. Baby faces (and skinny necks) abound. Very cool to see all those, though -- that seem so far away (and yet like yesterday). Well worth a few moments of your browsing time.

So, in my post-trip rage yesterday, I forgot to mention that I received a flurry of text messages and emails while I was toiling in the airport on Friday.

It would seem that the rest of the world had discovered the story of a buried Papi jersey in the new Yankee Stadium; one I told youts all those many months ago. Hilarious. At first, they wailed of a buried "Red Sox Shirt" (but we knew it to be a David Ortiz Jersey). Then the Yankees dismissed it as a tall tale, or "baseball legend".

Of course, once photos started to appear, lil' Hank Steinbrenner went berserk, threats of a lawsuit were made, and an emergency evacuation took place. The Jersey was finally brought out of the ground on Sunday, will be auctioned for charity, and the DA's office politely declined to prosecute any charges (something about more important crimes happening in the Bronx).

Me? I'm just glad they finally got it out of the ground -- Papi was dying under all that concrete -- going 3 for 43 (.070, worst in the majors) during his time in the foundation.

Now that he's finally free, he went 2 for 5 (.400) last night. Thanks, Yankees!

I am never going back to Las Vegas.

It all started so innocently (well, as innocent as a planned bachelor party in Vegas could be). Then, last week, American Airlines decided to start canceling swaths of flights all across America. Naturally, Frants and I had our own flights nixed on Thursday, when we were supposed to leave on Friday. Frants' good fortune was that his was canceled early -- so he phoned up the Platinum AA Member line (lah-dee-dah!) and they moved him over to a nice little Continental flight. Myself, I had to wait all day long until they finally dropped my flight around 6pm on Thursday. After a whole day of other cancellations, there were suddenly many less options for me. Like, one option. So, the eight AM flight from JFK it would have to be.

It was going to be for the best, we guessed -- arriving in Las Vegas at 11am would mean a whole day to nap and rest up and relax by the pool. Good fortune, perhaps?

No. No it was not.

For, if you caught a whiff of this tale from me over the weekend, you know that it would turn into the worst travel experience of my life. No understatement. Car picks me up at 4am for JFK, since I have to check in at BOTH American and Delta. No problem. Arrive there at 4:30am, do my checking in, get thru security, and by 6am I'm eating a little BK Breakfast at the Delta Snack Bar.

Everything seems fine as we get closer to boarding time, until, around 7:45am, we receive an announcement of a "slight mechanical problem". Technicians are working to repair it, and as soon as they do, we should be on our way. "Hopefully only an hour." This is an expression I will hear many more times. Needless to say, after an hour and a half, there is still no fix. They are half-assedly saying that they might not be able to fix it, and they would look into getting another plane. Or maybe cancel our flight. This could take another hour or two.

Oh, if only that were the case.

At this point, it was now mid-morning. I was exhausted from my early rise and my pre-flight dramamine (which I had taken right before they announced the delay). Delta's disgusting terminal, however, offered no rest. Old, terrible seating and filthy floors meant a slight meditation was all I could achieve. Still we waited. Finally, some relief -- they said our plane was able to be fixed! They just needed to test it. Another hour at the most!

Lies, damned lies.

After an hour, they tell us that our flight crew can no longer fly us to Vegas. It would put them over the FAA's allotted time for their shift. We must find another crew. Nobody thought to do this at any point during the past six hours, I guess.

Another mini-riot occurs as passengers turn on the agents. If they had canceled our plane, we could have tried to get other flights on Jet Blue. But they wouldn't. So we were stuck in purgatory, unsure if we'd ever get there. They offered an olive branch: "meal vouchers". A whopping $7 at the terminal food court.

This did not go over well.

The dance of half-truths and excuses continued as the hours ticked on. Around two o'clock, it hit the breaking point -- they reversed course and told us that we had to wait for a plane to arrive from Ohio, that our original plane was never fixed and was "still broken". Screaming and cursing began, people went buck wild. The Port Authority Police were called to the gate to calm things down.

And still, we just wanted to get to Vegas.

Eventually, we were told that our "new plane" would arrive around five PM. Once it was cleaned and turned around, we could take off... for Cincinnati. Our flight crew was once again, over the FAA limit, so we would need a fresh crew to continue onto Vegas. So it goes. I used my voucher for some BK tenders and watched another movie on my iPod. And waited.

We board a little after five o'clock. We sit and sit until we can get a slot for take-off (so much for their assurances that our flight "had priority" on the runway). We finally leave the godforsaken confines of JFK airport at 6:30pm -- fourteen hours after I arrived for my flight.

Of course, as we flew into Cincy, we hit the worst turbulence I've ever encountered -- no exaggeration. It was like "Lost" -- drinks flew into the air, people started screaming, and I had to catch the stewardess next to me who was falling backwards. I expected a briefcase to fall from above and crack the guy next to me in the head. Instead, it just continued for the next fifteen minutes and I had what competitive eaters call "A Reversal of Fortune" on landing -- losing those BK tenders in the process.

On the ground in Cincinnati, I doubled up on my dramamine as we switched crews. I tried to sleep some as we flew to Vegas. We land there after 10pm -- twelve hours late -- and I make my way back to the hotel to fall into a coma.

Still, it was great to see everyone the next day -- and we had a blast, drinking and drinking and drinking and watching the Sox defeat the Yankees. Larry put together a high-class weekend that everyone enjoyed. And, even though nobody won at the sportsbook (or had much luck at the tables); even though I got hit with the 'Curse of the Creamed Spinach' after dinner; even though I spent more time in airports and airplanes than I did with my pals -- I'd do it all again.

Because, I was there for the one last weekend when Corey was plied with too many drinks, had fun and make some bad decisions (betting on the Yanks being the least among them). Yes, it was worth it.

That said, I'm never setting foot in that goddamned town again.

Ahoy hoy. This one is for Kate, who demanded that I post with more regularity around these parts when I saw her this past weekend. She's a stern taskmaster, but she's right.

A splendid sunny New York day around these parts. There's something delightful about those first mornings in the spring when you can finally wear a lighter jacket -- it puts a boost in my step. About time, too: the endless cycle of rain/cold/rain/ice/cold/rain from this past winter was grinding me down. I look forward to getting some fresh air.

The past few weeks have been packed with activities & work. Including a trip up north to see Little D. take a 13 mile run through New Hampshire and Massachusetts. I have no idea how she did it.

We've also added Seester and the Mok to our PS3-enabled gang over that time. Soon we will have wonderfully geeky 3-on-3 games of COD4. Or Burnout. Or, by the end of the month, GTAIV. If you're feeling adventurous, Frants and I have taken up Warhwak... Nerd-tastic.

New weather = return of the bikes, which warms the cockles of my heart. Just this past weekend, we put our bikes to good use by riding to Hoboken for an all-day Birthday/Housewarming shindig for Goldie and Molly (and Addie). It was a blast, and riding home past midnight after an all-day affair was surprisingly relaxing.

What have you missed on the messageboard lately? Why, how about the fact that Brantley has won a major award? That's huge. Other than that, there's been some discussion on the complicity of the media in our current political climate, I've continued to post my "Song of the..." (day/week), and it turns out Duck likes to go on Public Access TV and change his name to 'Mr. Steve'.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to pack for this weekend. Vegas, and the bachelorization of Corey, looms.

The Start of Another Season.

While every day can be cause for a celebration, it is only the rarest of days that can be cause for two celebrations. Today is such a day.

On one hand, we have the return of America's Pastime, and America's Team: our beloved World Champion Boston Red Sox. The alarm went off at 5:15am. Enough time for a shower, a shave, and a yogurt before ESPN2 clicked over to high-definition images of Japan. The shots of the crowd were pretty impressive, and the shots by Moss and Manny were very impressive.

And, though I missed it on my trip into work, that snag by Jacoby was -- to quote D. Vader -- most impressive.

But the return of the Sox and their thrilling victory wasn't the only cause to cheer -- oh no -- for today is also the day a wee Irish lad burst onto the scene in Westborough, some thirty-one-odd years ago. Yes, our boy Mack, Matty, Knuckles -- Sox Fan, statesman -- is now the same age as Kevin Garnett. (And people say he's heading into the end of his career -- Knuckles is just starting!!!)

While others might use this day to celebrate the lives of Sarah Jessica Parker, Elton John, Aretha Franklin or Gloria Steinem (all born on this day) -- I choose to celebrate the only person I know who can drink Southern Comfort and enjoy it (aside from my Grandmother).

Cold night out tonight. Quite cold.

I trust everyone out there had a pleasant time kissing the Blarney (along with a pint or two) last night. I know I tried to take particular notice of any and all cultural rituals that I could spy -- the wife and I are going to Dublin in a few months, so I figured I should get some tips -- Unfortunately, the denizens of the West Village and Hoboken only seemed to don tacky green shirts (nothing says "irish" like a green Coors Lite tee), put shamrock stickers on their faces, and drink Budweiser.

Not many other moments of import over the last few weeks. Since my wacky birthday at the beginning of the month, I've just been adjusting to this new "in my 30's" mindset. That, and playing a crapload of video games.

Tonight, however, is one of the more exciting moments in recent television history -- I'm not talking about the latest episode of LOST, the impending finale of The Biggest Loser, or the oh-so-close return of Battlestar Galactica to our airways. No, I'm talking about the national premiere of one of our very own -- the Film Fop we all know and love, Frants. That's right, like others of our fold before him, you should turn into the Late Show with David Letterman tonight and see just what Brantley ends up doing. I'm sure it'll be a surprise to all!

Now, if you excuse me, I have to finish my MLB08 game, watch last week's LOST, and see who got eliminated on the Biggest Loser.

The Spanish Harlem Semi-Formal (sixth annual?!!?) was held this past Saturday at Frants' pad. Though smaller in numbers this time (more traveling, more babies, etc.), there was still plenty of fun to go around. Even Duck crashed the party -- twice -- via the PS3 and Frants' iMac chatterbox. The foodstuffs were delicious (especially the frozen chocolate pie), the iPod & Looney Tunes were bumpin', the liquor was flowing.

Of course, as the night wore on, it was time for the rocking.

Frants cracked out the PS3, and everyone jumped in to get a taste of the Rock Band. We had excellent renditions of "Roxanne", "Here It Goes Again", "Dani California", "Maps" and more. First time singers wailed. Drummers crushed like Animal. Guitarists shredded like Zakk Wylde. (Other times, whipping out a video game would normally bring a party to a screeching halt -- but it seems that Rock Band breaks that phenomenon. ) During every song, the floors would literally shake up and down with people dancing and going crazy. Fun fun fun. And that's not just the booze talking.

Of course, perhaps I didn't need to have those extra glasses of scotch... but isn't that what Rock 'n Roll excess is about?

A hearty congratulations to our pals who root for Big Blue. I still don't quite know if I'll ever be able to understand the phrase "Elijah Manning: Super Bowl MVP", but there you have it. Of course, this also means I'll get to see more clips of the Bills losing Super Bowl XXV for the next year-ish. So it goes.

My heartfelt sympathies to our Pats fans friends and family. While your quest for glory was denied, some of you still can relish in more positive things -- like pitchers and catchers in two weeks and the addition of Sean Casey. Also, take heart in the fact that you probably won't lose the next three in a row as well, and that, unlike those Cowboys fans, you know that Giselle isn't to blame [that would be, in order: 1.) The Un-Viking-like offensive line. 2.) The red sweatshirt. 3.) Not kicking the damn field goal.].

To conclude the NFL season, I present this video of some Giants Fans watching the end of the game. It's something I think that both fans of the Giants and Pats can enjoy (possibly for different reasons).

Super Tuesday has come and gone, and it looks like things are still neck and neck. I'm guessing we won't have this thing decided for at least another month (but I can't help but wonder what might be different if you California fools didn't let over 40% of your votes be sent in 30 days ago...). It's exciting, to say the least -- but, naturally, I'm still apprehensive about the other side of the aisle. McCain seems to be a lock (Bush Pt. 3? Bush-Lite?), but the surprising performance of Huckabee raises an interesting conundrum -- will the Rev. Huck be tapped for VP? In light of some of his more 'colorful' ideas, that's freaking scary.

Church and state? Separation, schmeparation.

If all things were equal, I'd throw my weight behind our buddy, Brother Ben Wilson -- who celebrated a milestone birthday yesterday by announcing his candidacy for the Presidency. Anyone who can pull of a long-sleeved Breeders shirt and jean cut-offs is aces in my book. Send him any and all policy and campaign ideas.

Be well, and let's see if we can't get this messy little strike thing cleared up over the weekend, okay?

So, in addition to curing some hiccups the site here was having for the past day or two, our pal Adam has been up to some other impressive feats: becoming the proud papa of a beautiful baby girl! Take a look at some of the fantastic photos he's got online, and be sure to congratulate Adam and Jennette on their bouncing wee lass.

Other than that, I've got a case of The Mondays goin' on. To help with that, I've included this photo of Abbey, who was down to visit us this weekend, looking more like a wookie than ever before. I credit the fast lens with capturing the moment, and others might say that she was "just licking her lips"... But if you look at her eyes, she's totally focused on Mark.

Maybe she didn't like all those comments we were making about her "looking a little big". Whatevs. I'm sure Cute Overload will still love her.

That's all I've really go to say at the moment. It's been quiet around these parts for a while. Most people (save Frants and Duck) have left the board, and so I'm forced to tackle the tumbleweeds all by myself. So it goes.

A big congrats to my friends and family who worship the Patriots. As expected, they've continued to steamroll their way to the big game out west. I surmised as much when they completely destroyed my Bills a few weeks ago.

And for my Giants pals -- Marcs, Haps, Cor & Dubs... After watching the game and all the penalties and screw-ups and missed field goals, I figured you'd need a puppy picture (isn't Addie adorable?) to pick you up. But, they managed to nail the game winner, and now you get to party as well. So have fun.

Can they pull off another upset and beat out the Juggernaut from New England? Don't ask me.

Winter slogs along, and so I turn to my favorite music video to give me a pick me up this afternoon at work. I was actually inspired to watch it again, since my pal Paulie pointed me in the direction of a wicked cool contest being held by the kids at the mp3 blog, Said The Gramophone.

Basically, they're asking you to make a music video. Pick any song you've ever loved. Follow your inspirado. Woila. If you're lucky, you can win the biggest indie rock prize pack I've ever laid eyes on. And so, if I had a camera and some editing software, I might consider it. In other news, there are some great photographs (if I do say so meself) from Diesel's Birthday Party a few weeks ago. The uber-illness has delayed their release to the world, but now they're here for everyone to enjoy. The new lens that Hydro and I got for Christmas has turned out some pretty pics, that's for sure. (Oh, and congratulations to brother Mok on his win -- I can't help but feel that he must have cheated, but I just don't know how. Probably by plying me with all them glasses of Yuengling.)

And last -- but certainly not least -- a most Happy of Birthdays to Dr. Jack Hrkach. The spiritual leader of my collegiate years is ticking off another notch today -- well on his way to living the life of luxury he's always dreamed of: retiring to that small farmhouse in Italy, drinking wine and reading The Seagull... while enjoying the company of a beautiful bella.

Here's to living the dream, Jack.

I had a fever of one hundred and... one. So, I didn't manage to get it up to the number endorsed by Foreigner to officially don me with the title of "Hot Blooded". But still, it was probably the "sickest" I've been since a wee child, and it kept me hallucinating and bedridden for four days. Carumba.

The holiday travels were quite enjoyable. Hydro and I had a complete blast up in Massawhosetts visiting the family for first Christmases. A lot of cooking and eating (done by all of us) to go along with a healthy portion of game playing (mostly by me & Brother Mark & Amy). The Rocking, however was something to be enjoyed by all, with our power trio, The Hillies, gaining over 30,000 fans and a shiny new bus in just a morning full of gigs. But, the band had to be put on hiatus when the D-Bolts had to shuffle off for NYC (and second Christmases).

Photos for both Xmases can be peeped on Flickr, with a sizeable number of ones being taken in the City -- due to the new lens I received then, and the fact that I was too darn lazy (and Mark was doing a damn fine job of taking them with his camera) while in Mass...

Once back in the city, we got to celebrate the births of Marcs and Diesel (photos to come soon), which also brought the added bonus of seeing Corey and Nells, and Duck & Ms. Rabbit. Time flies too fast, though, and before we knew it, they were gone and New Year's was here -- and along with it, a birthday for the lovely Amy. The cursed television gods forced her back to work on her birthday, but we still managed to take in a romantic evening of thin crust pizza and Johnny Depp slicing open people's throats while singing.

Isn't that romantic?

Before I could say "there's a whole in the world like a big black pit, and it's filled with people who are filled with --", I came down with a whooping of a cough and the aforementioned fever. A formidable New Year, thus far.

Tis been a busy week, my friends -- with the holiday coming up right quick, you'd be surprised how little time there is in a day to get everything done. Why, I'd much prefer watching old Beatles videos, but there will be plenty of time for that over the break. For now, it's work work work. And holiday parties. In fact -- you can see some nice ol' pics on Flickr from a fantabulous party we recently attended with some of our pals from Stonehill College, Hydro's al-ma-mater.

But, speaking of work -- let me tell you a little story that I heard there. A gentleman I know thru the office, his name is Paddy. Paddy has a friend who works in concrete. We'll call him 'Bernie'. Well, Bernie's been working on a pretty big project here in New York City. He's been pouring the foundation of a new building. A really big one. You might have heard of it.

Yankee Stadium. The new one.

That's right. It's the house that Jeter/A-Rod/Bernie/MyGoddamn Tax Dollars built. And the best part about all this?

Bernie is a Red Sox fan.

As you can expect, he catches a lot of crap for it on the site. But hey, we're the champs. So Bernie has the high hand. Fast forward to one day recently, when Bernie decides to wear his nice, new Big Papi jersey to work. Per usual, he gets some razzing. No big deal. He's used to it. Things get interesting, however, after lunch -- when the rest of the guys on the crew ask Bernie -- "Where's your jersey?"

Bernie shrugs a bit, appearing to wonder about it as he replies, "Hmm. I must have put it down somewhere." He doesn't seem worried by it. "I'm sure it's around here..." For you see, Bernie knows exactly where his jersey is. And it is around here. Or, maybe, "under here" would be a more appropriate description. Because Bernie had just decided to leave a little present for all the future Yankee fans. A present underneath some of that concrete of the New Yankee Stadium.

A #34 Boston Red Sox jersey, to be exact.

And so, for years to come, generations of fans will come to this New Yankee Stadium. They will sit. They will watch their team. They will cheer. And, all the while, beneath their seats, the spirit of David Ortiz will be enjoying a big ol' belly laugh. For old times sake.

The greatest rivalry in sports, ladies and gentlemen.

Ho Ho Ho. The holiday times are upon us, and so I've decided to take up my New Year's resolution early. It's about time I got back in the habit of updating this ol' blog log main page thingy more often. I'm pretty sure Duck is the only one who reads it regularly anymore, but at least that's a start.

So, what's new on the Beast Coast you say? Not a whole lot. There's been this little thing called a "Writers' Strike" going on for a while. That's been fun. Like today, when I got to go to the line and stand in hail and snow and rain and stuff. Groovy. My wife has gone from being bored with nothing to do at work all day to enjoying the fact that they can watch Oprah live in the office, so that's a plus for her. See, positive things can come from a major labor stoppage.

Thanksgiving was fantastic, I cooked for our clans. Goldie and Molls got a cute new puppy named Addie, and it makes us like them even more now (if that were possible). Frants got Rock Band and is in Oahu right now, so everyone is extremely envious. Matty followed in my footsteps and got knocked out in the first round of this year's fantasy football playoffs (the only good thing so far about this season has been China's bad-ass homemade t-shirts).

But, hey, the Sox won the World Series and the Bills have a winning record. That's not something that's happened in my lifetime before.

I have some backlogged photo sets I'm going to be putting up on Flickr. Put up a great one of the little bros, Winslow and Eli, when they and their parents came out to see us in Jersey for some learnage. Also put up a few shots from a vunderbar Mike Doughty show we caught at Joe's pub.

All and all, I think that's a pretty substantial update. It's going to have to do for now. Because I have a Burnout PS3 Demo ready for me to try out.

The hardest thing to do in sports is repeat. That's what they tell us, anyway, because it seemed pretty simple last night. That's right, your boys with their Arms Akimbo are once again Champwins of the World. (Or the Tuesday Night Men's Rec League Softball. But that's LIKE the world).

This year, however, we moved up to the "D" league because of our "E" League Championship last year. Didn't faze us: we rattled off 5 straight wins to end the season and take home the (incredibly ugly) trophy.

Next season we move up to "C" league, and after that, we go straight to AAA. Bring it on, Durham Bulls.

It seems like only yesterday that I was getting hitched and traipsing around the wilds of Greece, but before you know it -- months have flown by, trips have been taken every weekend since July, you stand up in two weddings, the baseball playoffs are upon us, and all you have to show for it is a trip to the emergency room and a month spent on antibiotics.

And, do you know what a month on antibiotics means? It means no beer. What kind of end to the summer is that?

But, it was all worth it in the end. Was it the best timing for me to have Kuato start growing out of my side as our lovely friends got hitched? No. But it didn't stop me from dancin' up a storm. I just finished out my year of wedding bliss this past weekend, with my brother-in-law's new nuptials. He's now kicking it Hawaii style on his honeymoon. We're back here sitting thru unseasonable 85-degree-and-humid October weather. Quite jealous.

Things are starting to finally settle down, though. Even though things have heated up at work, it's nice to get a little free time back. Hopefully we'll be able to put in some bike rides before the coming of the snows. We're also way overdue with some visits with our baby-friends, too. And, of course, there's always the playoffs to watch. Tonight our beloved "Andrew" Daisuke Matsuzaka takes the mound, hoping to put the olde towne team up by two games. It would be a nice present for Frants, who just turned an AARP-sized 31 yesterday. I'm thinking that I should probably bring some oxygen (or Depends) for him when we go to concert tomorrow afternoon...

For now, let's just hope for some downtime to continue, so your old pal Kluv can put up some of the many mixes he's had sitting in the que for outputting and uploading on the webs. He's been remiss in his duties, oh yes he has.

The summer is flying by mighty fast, my friends. Work, trips, weddings, babies -- they all blur into one. But, every so often, we get to take some time out and chillax. So, I give you an excuse to do that right now, and enjoy some of the pics we recently took on our weekend up to Ithaca.

It doesn't get better than Gorges, DP Dough, Wegmans, , IC, Hal's, Bo Burgers and Black Forest. It really doesn't.

I also know I haven't put up the last group of pictures from my trip to Santorini, but what can I say -- if I don't put them up, I can still pretend like we just got back.

So, I hope this year I actually got it on the right day. Matty & I were this close to posting a photo we found of Duck's... brain... but, we figured it would be more valuable in a few years (when we could sell it to Celebrity Skin, perhaps).

That said, the boy from Boonton becomes a man today, and we're awfully proud of him. He should know that when Frants gives him his "special present" tonight, it's really from all of us back east.

May you have the same amount of spunk that Buzz Aldrin shows when you reach his age.

A very happy life-day to our proud papas -- Sorel and Gar. They're old, old, old -- but, at least they have babies to show for it. We spent a lovely Sunday enjoying the sunshine and love of Prospect Park -- filled with babies, sandwiches, cake, Aerobee & a hammock. Just lovely.

Yassis! I trust everyone is preparing themselves for a nice little Fourth o' July R&R this week. We had beautiful weather in NYC this past weekend. Friday night was kicked off when we checked out Jess' one-woman show, "Drawn" with Matty & Liz. Jessica was awesome, as expected, and the show went great (Diesel also did a good job as Tech Director). Afterward, we went around the corner for some drinks and delightful conversation. Drinks & Betty Boop? A perfect evening!

Saturday, Hydro and I went out on a sweet little bike ride up the West Side of Manhattan. We topped that off with an investigative roll around Hoboken (to spot different condo locations). Sunday, we met up with Gar & Lizzie and their newest bundle of awesomeness -- Winslow. So. Totally. Cool. We soaked up the sunshine, avoided exploding manholes, and observed a high-school baseball practice. Winslow is super adorable (go figure), and in between the squeezing and ogling we heaped upon him, I also took about 250 photos. I'll pick out some of the finest ones this week for your viewing pleasure.

For your immediate pleasure, though -- take a look at Kluv & Hydro in Greece -- Hellas Honeymoon, Part One! Share a glimpse into our first few days of Greece (and our first few days as a married couple) -- most of it was spent looking at each other and saying: "Is the wedding really over? Wowser. Time sure does fly when you're having fun, don't it? One second, you're dancin' with friends to "It Takes Two", the next second you're standing on a volcano in the middle of the Agean Sea, and before you know it you're back behind a desk, pushin' pencils.

I would like to go back and dance some more, please.

It was an awesome time, that blew by so much faster than I could have anticipated. In fact, if there weren't photographic proof (luckily, there was a lot of it), I don't know if I'd believe it actually happened. You can check out the proof our camera managed to get here, along with links (lovingly compiled by Little D) to everyone else's snaps, too.

One of the unexpected bonuses I get out of this? Membership into The HusBand, which I've been looking forward to for a long time (but, obviously cannot discuss). It's my hope beyond hope that I will be bestowed with a Secret HusBand Name, now that I'm legit. So, if U-Bend and Sweet-Wheat are reading... sign me up! (Also, for those of you men out there who are married, if you haven't signed up yet -- be sure to subscribe to their podcast -- but ONLY IF YOU ARE A MARRIED MAN.)

In the meantime, I'm off to sift thru 1,652 photos from Greece (which, yes, will be online sometime soon), and read all about Frants' wacky New Zealand adventures.

Their beautiful bouncing baby boy, formerly known as Fearless, now goes by the wicked awesome monicker of Winslow. He popped into the world a week ago today, and is a strapping young lad. We're all very excited to meet him.

This time, it has a girl's name!! Say hello to the newest addition to the baby-factory that is the east coast, Maggie!! She is indeed wee, (6 lbs. 5 oz and 18 1/2") , and mommy and baby are doing great. Just think, in another 18 years or so, all of these babies could fall in love with each other and we'd all be officially related.

Sorry, just getting a head start on my "creepy uncle" thing.

Put your hands together and welcome our newest member of the Mafia -- Baby BoCo! (Although his proud parents, Bobo & Soco, like to call him Jackson.) He finally got the eviction notice his parents sent him on Wednesday night, around 10:03pm, and as you can see in this picture -- he's enjoying his new location mightily. The little tyke is (so far) the strong and silent type -- and he even scored a 9.9 out of 10 on his "Baby Aptitude Test Thingy" (which, might give us pause to wonder who the real father is... Bob NEVER got a 9.9 in his life).

Anyways, join me in giving a big ol' congrats and "HOWDY" to little BoCo. DooKeeDoooKeeDooKeeDoooo!

Now, to go from the hinterlands of Jersey to the deserts of Jordan, I got an update from the World-Travelling Haps this week. I asked him to write a post for the site, but he said: "you know i can't write updates .....i'm retarted"

He did, however, let me know about some of the cool things he's up to (besides shooting a movie): "so far i've camped out in the wabi rum desert, saw petra, rode a camel, thurs. going to dead sea." I asked him if he found the Holy Grail at Petra, but he said no.

I think you'll agree with me that the image of Haps on a camel + the new Baby BoCo = big smiles on everyone's faces.

That's right, friends, Mr. Mysterio has finally gotten his call to the big leagues of Hollywoodland. After toiling for years under the thumbs of slave-drivers (like Mr. Dingess, for example), now it's time for him to do the driving.

So, now more than ever, it's time to turn your TV's to NBC this Wednesday at 10:00pm (and watch that evening's disappointing episode of LOST for free on ABC.com the next day). "No One To Watch Over Me" is not just a script by the team of Cor & Trav -- it also has some goods for us: namely, a character named after someone close to our hearts. Who could it be?!?! Be sure to head over to the messageboard thread on the episode, where Spermy provides some behind-the-scenes tidbits. Big China says the powers that be give it a thumbs up. Heck, all you need to know is that their script was good enough for people to make it snow in California (supposed to be Ithaca?!), so it MUST be good.

It's been a busy few weeks, my friends. Weeks and weeks of workaday (pilot) ~~drudgery~~ excitement. (I've gotta say on the record, though, that spending a couple days inside NY City Hall was pretty sweet...)

Anyways, I was lucky enough to finally get a day off. And, because I love y'all so much, I decided to put up another mixtape for your listening enjoyment. I know our last mix went over SO WELL, and I didn't want to keep the public clamoring (in silence) for more, so I just put up our latest creation on Shuffle This.

It's another pen-pal mix from Matty and I, and it's called Songs That Rocked Your Pubescent Heart. So, this one's for all our mates at Hempfield High and Westborough High (especially my boy Jeff, who's had one too many wild rides in the past week). HHS/WHS Rulz!

It's cold outside.

I mean, it's really cold outside. So I'm going to stay in and work on organizing the six-hundred (true!) photos I took this past weekend. It just happened to me my birth-weekend, and so we had a little shindig at our place. HydroBro came down, people came out, food and drink was had. Not a bad time if I do say so myself... Not a bad time at all. Feel free to peek at some pics of the weekend if you are so inclined.

We started production on our pilot for NBC at work this week. Should be a good one, even though this snow on the ground is throwing us for a loop... This week is also the "Field Studies" week here in NYC. I was supposed to help shape the young minds at a panel yesterday, but there was a "scheduling snafu" (i.e., I wasn't told about the schedule) -- so, sadly I won't get to inspire (fear in) the kids this time around. I still hold out hope on catching our fearless leader, Sir Jack, this Friday. Time will tell.

Lastly, I'd like to send a big ol' amount of love to Haps today -- he's gettin' a little surgery in the hospital to stop that phenomenon the Ritz used to call "a baby seal getting run over by a 16-wheeler" (aka: Happy's sleep apnea/snoring/choking to death). It's a good thing. He even has to stay in bed for a few weeks afterwards. So, if any of you available ladies are looking to be a nursemaid, head up to Washington Heights. Bring your own sponges.

A happy, hearty Friday to everyone. I hope your weekend rest, should it come, is well deserved. Some points of interest:

- WIMR makes it's return for a second season! We've got a new theme song, Bobo's getting a new computer, and it's the same old jamokes talking about the same old crap. Send in your requests, listeners.

- Frants is famous. That's right, America's next Ryan Seacrest (in more ways than one) is the host of the search for the Next Maytag Repairman. Happy Spring Training, my baseball-loving friends. I'm sure some of you are following the "Yes, it's true, I don't sleep over Derek's house five nights a week anymore and I'm okay with it" drama from the Janquis... and I'm sure some of you are tingling with excitement over the fact that our boy "Andrew" Daisuke (that's a Matty gem) knows how to knock one back. Hell, maybe there's one of you out there who actually cares about another team.

Either way, it's good to have baseball back.

Happy belated Valentine's, all. I meant to post these morsels of goodness on the day itself, but the workaday drudgery and massive amounts of ice-and-snow-in-face lowered my constitution. So, you're getting the two-days-later job from me.

First up would be the SpaHa Semi-Formal from this year. A good time was most definitely had by all, and luckily for us there was no blizzard this year. Between the Ham, Pudding, Caviar & Premium/Ultra Vodkas -- we partied-down right. So, kudos to Frants for hosting yet another success, and for not passing out at 10:30pm. On this post-super-Sunday-Monday, I wanted to give all a'yall a little taste of Meg's recent BabyShower/Birthday Shindig. It was fun for all, but the best part of the afternoon was when we found out that Lizzie and Gar aren't just having one baby, but as you can see from this picture, another magical baby that Gareth is carrying and has fashioned entirely out of beer. It truly is a miracle.

I also wanted to give a whoop whoop whoop to Ben-No on his wookie day of life, today. I trust somewhere he's frolicking around in some short jean shorts and a long-sleeved Breeders t-shirt. At least, that's what I see when I close my eyes. Yum.

Other than that, I hope you are all keeping warm warm warm in this frigid weather.

Wow. I can't believe it's already the middle (end!) of January... A busy new year + A busy work schedule + A debilitating flu = time flying by fast.

But don't let it fly by too fast kids -- if you haven't already, do yourself a favor and be sure to check out Stevie C.'s (of SteveDCampbell.com fame) current production: The Servant of Two Masters. It's playing through this weekend, and you'll be doing yourself a disservice if you miss it.

It's a great play, a classic piece that is Fun-ny (note the capital "f") with great performances -- including Steve, who plays the Servant that ends up with two masters. Go figure. Anyways, it's directed by Stuart Vaughn (that guy who just happened to be the original artistic director of the New York Shakespeare Festival) and it's at a sweet little theatre.

Three thumbs up, I say.

Go to ticketcentral.com to pick yourself up some tickets for this weekend. Tis worth it.

Other than that, not much new (aside from the work and the travel and the illness). Busy busy busy.

Ladies and Gents, your 2006 Burbank Men's E Class Champions. Of the world.

I realized, as I hoisted the pathetic little plaque over my head, that this was the first time I had ever been a champion in all my years of organized sport. DB can attest, Rockaway Valley School was not exactly known for their athletics (except women's basketball). I was on a winning Little League team for two days, but then my dad decided coaching Little League would be a good way to connect with his distant son, and signed up to be a coach, and got me traded to Lee's Army Navy. We sucked. We had a girl named "Fawn" on our team.

Being a champwin like the Iron Shiek is a nice feeling.

So, the story goes like this:

Go to Brooklyn. Go to Barcade. Enjoy the great Fünde Razor II charity event. Play Guitar Hero II. Drink some beer. Buy a few raffle tickets, with proceeds going to the amazing Child's Play charity. It's for the kids.

The Result:
- Brantley wins the big, final armload of schwag (8 PSP Games and more).
- Brantley wins the first grand prize: EIGHT cases of beer.
- Kevin wins the bonus grand prize: A custom-made Guitar Hero controller -- "Now With Real Guitar!"

The Moral? Charity is great. And, we just had one of the luckiest nights of our lives.

UPDATE UPDATE: Here's a retelling of the magic moments from Frants' perspective.

Oy. The morning after, when I'm not loopy from actually winning something (and from quite a few Anchor Xmas Ales... very good), I see that maybe the rest of the Mafia won't really care (except for Matty, who knows the glory of Guitar Hero). But whatevs.... Kev and I had, between us, 7 raffle tickets among aprox 300 total, and we won the top three prizes.

Kev and I were at the far end of the bar, just happy to find somewhere to sit, and with a good view of the big screen on which the rockin' was going on. They start the raffle, and we can't hear the numbers. Kev says, "Give me your tickets, and I'll go up there and listen." And off he goes into the masses.

I hear a number here and there. Nowhere close to mine. See T-Shirts being thrown, then some light applause. And then I see Kev struggling back to the bar with his hands full of STUFF. He meets my eye, screams, "Frants, this is yours, you won this."

What did I win?
- 8 PSP games, including Capcom Arcade Classics (Commando! 1943! Ghosts and Goblins!), Sega Genesis classics (Sonic! Golden Axe!), and EA classics.
- An Xbox360 external memory card (gave that to a guy who has a 360)
- A PC game called School Tycoon.
- A fairly cool die-cast metal model of the black car from the game DRIVER.
- A Dance Dance Revolution dance pad for the PS2 (I left it there, too big to carry home)

I'm shocked, but Kev runs back. They're giving away the grand prizes now. The grand prizes, we know, everyone's eligible again. Even if you won something, they put your ticket back in.

I hear cheering, applause. Don't hear numbers or anything. Drink drink. Where's Kev?

Then, for a second, thru the crowd, I swear I see a glimpse of Kev with a nylon guitar case on his back. Then I lose him: no way, no way, I think. He appears again, meeting my eye, filled with pride. I can only imagine what my eyes did.

He walks up to me. He won the fucking guitar. I say this: "You won the fucking guitar?!?!"

He says, "And you won 8 cases of beer."

And we couldn't stop smiling. We never win anything. Ever. And we just swept. It was as though all these other films won Best Art Direction and Best Costumes, but we walked home with Picture, Director, and Screenplay.

So, I've got to get back out to Wburg tonight to somehow get 8 cases of beer back to SpaHa. And then Kev needs to get Guitar Hero, so I can go over there and compete with him: I on the wired, plastic, included guitar controller, and he with a lovely wireless REAL guitar mod.

Good times.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we've hit a landmark. The man you see above is no longer a spry youth in his twenties -- oh no, he is not. He has graduated into the "Third Age", as Elves might call it... but for us, it's just "our Thirties". He's taking it all in stride, however, refusing to change his daily routine (save for the addition of some prune juice to his diet), god bless him. Maybe this year he'll actually get hair on his chest.

So take a good look, kids -- Frants is another year older. And, as he pointed out, it's sort of an arbitrary benchmark, "only in the way that we assign more meaning to decades and numbers ending in zero." I consider it a benchmark in other ways, however, because just over eleven years ago, most of us met for the first time in upstate New York. And, almost eleven years ago exactly -- Frants put together a little improv troupe where a couple of us got to find out how funny we were. (*Ahem, "Rubber Bone" - 1st Place in the Ithaca College Improv Comedy Competition.) And since then, we've had some grand adventures (most of which have been arranged by Frants The Travel Agent).

So I say, Happy Birthday, sweet Brants. Here's to 30 more years of fun fun, fun in the sun.

ShuffleThis is back, and lookin' to party -- with not just one, but two mixes for your earholes. First, we have the eighth IthacaMafia Mixtape for your enjoyment, where the theme this time around is cover songs. I've been a'workin' on it for quite some time, so I hope you find it to your liking. I've received numerous requests from folk over the years for a comprehensive introduction to Ska -- and a limited edition of you out there already have the CD's I made. The weekend was fabuloso and filled with a surprise visit by Ire & the lovely Liz. Bobo & SoCo put together a bitchin' bash at their pad out in Jersey for Kamy; and went over and above the call to keep us entertained (and full). It was so popular, even members of the animal kingdom showed up, as you can see above (I'm not talking about Haps). Check Flickr for more pics, if you dare.

I'm off to Lancaster this weekend, but if you're looking for a place to catch some football this Sunday (or this season -- I'll be going quite a bit), head over to The Joshua Tree (46th & 9th) where Marcs is bartending. I'm just about recovered from our whirlwind weekend out on the Left Coast. The miserable rain back east isn't helping, and I think I still need an extra 12-hours sleep for this weekend, but I'm just about at 100%. Hydro and I took off before sunrise back here in Newark, and landed in La-La right after breakfast. It was a fantastic weekend, thanks to our many Californian amigos.

Friday was spent with Warning at the weird and wonderfilled Warner Bros. lot, taking in all the "showbiz" (& Studio 60). Then, Duck swept me up from the girls and took me to my very first H-wood audition, and a quick peep of the land before meeting up with the rest of the gang (Hydro, Warning, Ms. Rabbit, Spermy, Ding & Steph) at Red Sox Nation west, Sonny McLean's in Santa Monica. After some food, terrible Sox play, a blathering exhaustion-enduced rant about the Bills, and many beers -- it was time to go home and pass out.

Saturday was rise-n-shine & see the land day. Hydro and I went around with Dubs to see the sights, not limited to Santa Monica, the Hills, a nice overlook on Mulholland, and, of course, the Strip and the Chinese theatre. After our action-packed afternoon, we headed over to Sperm and Nelson's pad for a wicked awesome BBQ. More western-friends came to hang out (the Weeelsons, Big China, Mel & Haro, Travis & Courtney), more food (great burgers by Spermy), and more drinks were enjoyed. Perhaps a little too enjoyed, since I neglected to take many pictures that night -- until it was time to go (which was around 5am, east coast time).

Our final day in the Angels was started with an early morning brunch, after which the Ding & Steph tag-team took me off the girls hands (so they could prepare for the Emmys). We hit Will Rogers Beach and met up with the Ducks again, this time to conquor mother ocean. I'd call it a tie. After an hour or so, the snot was nocked out of me pretty damn well (one biggun in particular flipped me upside down and carried me in halfway). But it was much fun. Mucho. We dried out, kicked back, and then ended up heading home. We rolled in Dingess' fat ride to their place for a change, and then over to watch the pre-Emmys (tape delay) with some of the old "Ed" crew. We then sped down the freeway with reckless abandon, "Transporter"-style, so that I would make my meeting w/ Hydro at the airport for the red-eye home. And he didn't even need to use the nitro. We flew home, we slept (a little), and were zombie-fied for the next day.

And lastly, I'd like to thank the awesome blossoms on the West Coast for their hospitality, humor, and huge huevos. They wined me, they dined me, and it was much appreciated. It has only made me miss them more -- so, while the West still might not be the place for me to live, it's a fine, fine place to visit.

So, a miserable, rainy Monday. A weekend in LA filled with sun and little sleep. A red-eye flight home, and the delirium of the ensuing workaday drudgery. This is where I'm at right now. I am about to pass out.

And you all will just have to wait for me to recover (around 24-hours) before I put up my Los Angelenos photographs.

Today was a beautiful day back East. One of those summer days so perfect; filled with coolcrispclean air and the warming glow of the sun's heat lamp. I knew this, even though I sat in my office all day (away from the windows). So, when the school bell rang, I hoofed it double-time to get back home.

Ran upstairs, put on some shorts, hopped on my bike. I took off up the road and headed towards Hoboken, running like the wind from the sunset on my left. It was delicious. (The bikes, our recent aquisition, are everything I could hope them to be. I forgot how much I enjoyed riding as a kid -- the freedom, the breeze in your face, all of it!) So I pedaled around; in, at, away from the sun. I snapped a few pictures (you can see them in my flickr) and enjoyed the moments. A peep at the block J2S and Molls will be moving to next month. A group of people performing some sort of choreographed dancing underneath the light rail tracks (at least twenty!). The sun setting -- watching the glow slowly extinguish itself upon the buildings across the river.

It was a good day.

I hope you had one, too.

(And, after just watching "When the Levees Broke: Part I & II", it made me even more thankful for days like this...)

Looks. Ours has been pretty old for a while now. A little... stale, I guess. So when Hydro went away on vacation and left me to my devices for a few weeks, I did what any red-blooded man would do: I built a new website.

Say hello to Ithacamafia.com, Version 5.

Which, according to my calculations, gives us just under a new version for each year we've been up. Not bad. (Considering I didn't know anything about design back then, and only a little now, I'd say that's pretty good.) But still, it was time to bring the mafia up into 2k6. We needed a cleaning. Thus, I've streamlined and simplified; but, as always, still tried to keep from faking the funk. The highlights:

- Showcasing the efforts of WIMR, which has been a big success over the last few months. It's truly become an excellent community project we've come to enjoy, helmed by everyone's favorite punching-bag, Bobo.
- Direct link to ShuffleThis.com , (parent station of WIMR). Much like the re-launch we have for the main site, in the next month we will be re-starting the IthacaMafia Mixtapes as well. With one in the can already, and 4-5 in the loading dock, we should be good to go. Look for the new mixtape within a week. Get back to work on them mixes you love so much and pass them along to me. (Playlists are also strongly encouraged, and much easier to share than actual Mixtapes...)
- More fun with Flickr. The picture pages have been updated, and now are fully Flickr friendly (since that's where most of us put our pics, anyways). And, if you want to submit your own flickr gallery for the picture pages -- just let me know.
- In case you never memorized the strange, long, "direct" address for the Messageboard, you can now just type in: ithacamafia.com/theboard
- New hotness.

Take a look around, hit me with your feedback stick, and test things out. She may still need some last minute trims here and there, but I think she's looking pretty good. (Considering all the slapdash tweaking I had to do to get her to talk to Blogger...) It's time to get this old girl stretched out and running again.

I just wanted to take a quick moment to give a plug for our very own Bobo. I caught his current one-man extravaganza -- "Bob Barth is an Innocent Man" this past Sunday, and it was fantastic. Funny, entertaining and touching; if you're free this Sunday night, you should make plans to come to midtown -- and at the very least, you can hear the man belt out some kickass Folds, Bowie or Costello.

Hydro and I will be going again for a second round of beer, food and good-ol' Bob Barth fun. Be a good little squaw and join us, will you?
